Trinity Biotech Announces Consolidation of R & D and Opening of a New US Marketing Office

Dublin, Ireland October 29, 1996, Trinity Biotech (NASDAQ:TRIBY) today announced a consolidation of its research and development efforts. It is relocating its California research activities to its Dublin headquarters and is opening a new sales and marketing office in New Jersey, which has a high concentration of pharmaceutical and diagnostic companies. Brendan Farrell, president of Trinity, will relocate to New Jersey to focus primarily on expanding Trinity's business in North and South America. The company is closing its Irvine, California research and sales facility. Dr. Siegfried Krutzik, the company's Scientific Director, is relocating to Dublin and will head up the company's research staff of 23 scientists.

Trinity also announced the appointment of Holland & Associates, as the company's consultants on regulatory affairs in the US. Holland & Associates will act as advisors to Trinity on Food and Drug Administration ("FDA") issues and will handle all of Trinity's product filings with the FDA including the Uni-Gold product range. Trinity reconfirmed that during the fourth quarter it will submit to the US FDA its one step Uni-Gold HIV diagnostic product.

Commenting on the announcement, Ronan O'Caoimh, Chief Executive said "the relocation of Brendan Farrell ,Trinity's president, to take charge of our restructured US operations is timely and logical as the pace of development of our Uni-Gold product range continues to accelerate. It emphasises the commitment that Trinity places on US markets and reflects the importance of these markets to Trinity both today and in the future. In addition, Brendan along with Holland & Associates are in a position to guide Trinity's expanding product line through the FDA approval process. The consolidation of our research and development groups into our manufacturing facility in Dublin will greatly increase the efficiency of product development and manufacturing."
